Brief history
The needs that encouraged businessmen and institutions in the province of Jaén to work together in the project of setting up a Technological Centre for Plastics arose in the 1990s, when a ‘cluster’ of companies grew up around the two driving forces of industry in the area (Suzuki-Santana and Valeo). They had to react to the new purchasing policies of these two companies which was one of subcontracting the manufacture of products with participation in the design phase (“Simultaneous Engineering”). This situation demanded that companies have resources, both human and R+D+i materials which at that time they did not have.
The regulating framework in place at that time was the PLADIT 2001-2003. Based on this, in October 2003, ANDALTEC R+D+i Foundation was created, and began its activities in collaboration with the Andalucian Institute of Technology. However, it was not until January 2005 that it began to create income as a result of setting up a technical consultancy office for companies. Although this was low volume it was enough to finance the operation.
In October 2006, by virtue of the PIMA 2005 plan (Innovation and Modernization Plan for Andalucía, Andaltec is awarded the classification of Technological Centre, within the network of Andalucian Knowledge Agents. It was from this moment on that there was a major increase in its business activity. This was due to non-competitive invitations to develop projects in collaboration with other technological centres in Andalucía.
In December 2006 the first part of the project to build and fit out the Technological centre was started. The budget was €6,000,000, and the work was to be done on a plot of some 16,000 m2. This land was granted by the Town hall of Martos to the Foundation.
Andaltec started to receive income from offering its services and from bidding for work (both competitively and non-competitively) from seats of learning and knowledge
In December 2008, Andaltec received the AENOR certificate for its management systems for Quality and the Environment, in accordance with the standards; ISO 9001:2000 and 14001:2004 respectively. Similarly, its R+D+i Project Management system complies with the regulation 166002:2006.
