The project is focused on the development of new materials and processes that will improve the quality and functionality of parts with optical properties that may be affected by condensation phenomena. The objective is to develop a manufacturing process for complex optical parts based on polymeric materials with anti-condensation properties, using surface treatment techniques with laser texturing. The project offers innovative solutions to two of the most significant challenges in the manufacture of thermoplastic materials with applications in complex optical systems: the development of optical parts with anti-condensation properties and the generation of complex surface geometries. Through this project, Andaltec has applied laser technology to obtain functional surfaces to meet the needs of the industry for surface finishes and complex geometries of plastic products.
Andaltec researchers have optimised the geometry and sizes of the texturing to achieve superhydrophobicity on a stainless steel surface thanks to their extensive experience in laser microtexturing. Ad-Lighting has enabled the identification of the specific materials and process parameters required to prevent condensation while maintaining the optical properties of the final plastic products. This eliminates the need for anti-condensation post-treatments of finished products, which are currently expensive and have certain limitations of use.
The project is financed through a line of aid for the implementation of R&D&I projects for private agents of the Andalusian Knowledge System, which is managed by the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Economy, Knowledge, Business and University of the Andalusian Regional Government.
