Improvement of magnetic properties by laser texturing

Andaltec Technology Centre has participated in the European R&D project ESSIAL, which has managed to improve the efficiency of electrical machines by using laser technology to texturise the materials of this equipment and thus improve their magnetic properties. In addition, the researchers have managed to increase the recyclability of these machines by using techniques for joining plastic and metal using laser technology.

Andaltec has focused mainly on the assembly and disassembly of the developed prototypes, using the plastic-metal laser joining technology.
This has enabled us to improve the assembly process in terms of manufacturing costs, energy efficiency and environmental impact. Furthermore, the centre has conducted a cost and environmental analysis of the technology developed. In terms of cost analysis, the return on investment (ROI) was achieved in less than five years. In terms of environmental impact, the technology developed has resulted in a reduction of up to 20% in CO₂ emissions.

This initiative has been developed within the framework of the European Commission’s ‘Horizon 2020’ call through a consortium in which Andaltec has participated together with 12 other entities and companies from all over the continent, such as the Fraunhofer Institute of Germany, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Amiens, Albatros or Lasea.
