Grafood is a European project that has developed an innovative food packaging solution based on graphene. The incorporation of nanomaterials, such as graphene, into food packaging enables the preservation of food items for extended periods. Furthermore, this innovative product reduces food waste, extending the shelf life of packaged food products. The project has resulted in the development of an active packaging solution based on paper and polylactic acid (PLA) modified with graphene oxide activated by probiotics and nano-Ag-TiO2.
Andaltec researchers were responsible for the development and validation of the graphene-activated food packaging prototype in a project funded by the European M-ERANET 2016 programme.
